my phone doesnt find any drivers in that folder

2. Nick - May 31, 2006

Try right clicking on the INF that you unzipped and selecting install.
Then plug the phone in. When windows asks abou the driver, chose to specify a location, point it at the unzipped folder and then see if that works for you.

Thanks Nick for the response,

I have one file(WIP330). Inside is 3 wceubsh files, one is a security catalog, one is set up info, one is a system file. When I right click any of these it only offers,OPEN,Cut, Copy, Delete, and Properties. No Install.

Any additional help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

tom

4. Nick - June 2, 2006

Tom-
Did you unzip those three files first?
You should be able to click on the INF (the setup info one) and select install. Then when you plug in the phone it will ask for drivers, chose to specify the location and point it to where you extracted those three files.

This is kind of a hit-or-miss operation at this point; but I’m hearing most people are having success.

Thanks Nick–don’t know how I did it but its up and synced. Probably have no business in here anyway. New to this stuff. So is it possible to add programs? and wallpaper pics?

Thanks for your help

tom

6. Nick - June 2, 2006

Hey, we are all palying around here!
I was able to add wall paper by pulling one off and modifying it. Then I saved it back.
I have not tried adding programs simply because I’m not sure where they will show up in the UI.
If you give it a try, let me know how it works out.

7. tom nelson - June 2, 2006

Ive added a bunch of pics in the wallpaper and they work–used nero photosnap to shrink them to 240 x 320 .bmp. Next going to try and get TV (sage tv) to work on it…………….

Hello, I just got a wip330, but ihave been trying to set it up with
one of the voip providers, i tried FWD (freeworld dialup) , voip

I tried diferent combinations, but no luck. but i am really a newbie at this, and i don’t have full understanding yet.
if anyone knows of another voip ptovder that would also, i think Skype does work wiht wip330. thanks for your help.

10. TOM NELSON - June 7, 2006

is it possible to get java on this phone?

11. tom p - June 7, 2006

Thanks, i will try to compare settings to other voip providers.
I don’t know about java, but maybe because it is windows CE based, it may be possible. i have also read that it already has Skype drivers in it, but does have the .exe skpe program. maybe there will be updates coming from Linksys. I was trying to find a pay-as-you-go voip provider that may work with the 330.

12. Giab - June 10, 2006

In the review it was mentioned that phone does not ring 9 out of 10 times, I did not face such problem at all. If some one face such problem then go to DMZ setting and register phone’s IP address, the will solve the problem. I configure Voange and works fine.

13. kurt - June 10, 2006

I have just purchased the 330 and downloaded Active Sync, thus I can explore the phone just fine. But when setting up my sync, it says that the calander and tasks are not installed. Is there any way I can get my Outlook to sync with the 330 using the Active Sync 4.1 ?

thanks
Kurt

14. Nick - June 12, 2006

Kurt
It appears the WIP330 does not use the standard windows CE / mobile contacts application. Since that is basically missing from the OS there isn’t a way- that I know of yet- to sync outlook contacts using activeync.

Giab
I agree that putting the phone in a DMZ should work. However, I’ve spent the past week traveling around the East Coast for business and using different hot spots. Since almost all of them were behind NAT routers (that I didnt have access to) the phone never worked. I was able to register with out fail, but I never had any audio since the proper RTP ports were not forwared to my phone.
The addition of STUN will greatly help!

Tom P
The addition of Skype has been speculated a lot, esp over at voip-info.com I’d love to see it included in this phone myself.

For Pay-as-you-go check out telasip.com, I think they have a metered account.

15. Giab - June 13, 2006

Nick,

Right, RTP ports is an issue, I heard that they are adding STUN in new firmware!

16. kurt - June 20, 2006

Gaib,

Thanks for the feedback.

Does anyone know a good VOIP software client that can work on Windows Mobile 5.0 ? We want to test the Voip client using the cellular “high speed” data network back to our feature server.

thanks,
Kurt

18. wunger - July 13, 2006

Hi all.

I’ve tried downloading the USB drivers from the link supplied above, however, it takes me to those great screens that says the site is unavailable. Anybody have a copy or is the link going to get fixed soon?

Thanks

19. wunger - July 13, 2006

How did you get it to work with Vonage?

20. Jerome - July 15, 2006

It seems that the link (provide above) to the WIP330 drivers is no longer working, would you please provide an updated link or email me the drivers at: jibanes [at] eskimo.com ?

Thanks!
Jerome

Just a reminder, archatechs has moved to http://www.archatechs.com
you can find the entire 3 part review of the WIP330 here at:
http://www.archatechs.com/blog/files/category-4.html

The windows activesync drivers can be found under the Downloads section as well.

22. ScottyT - July 26, 2006

I have loaded the INF files and the device is available in the OS but Active Sync will not see it. Any ideas?

23. Nick - July 28, 2006

ScottyT
At this time it doesnt appear that Active Sync actually syncs anything with the phone. In other words, you cannot load up your contacts, etc…so your not missing anything.

Just a reminder to check out the new site: http://www.archatechs.com

24. TIP for NAT for Hotspots users / Felipe - July 29, 2006

TIP for NAT for Hotspots users:

Remember that the NAT Tunnel is open for a variable time, so configure the expire time to 60 sec. , so the phone try to re-register and keep the tunnel open, so you can receive call via RTP correctly.

Felipe

25. ScottyT - July 29, 2006

Understood that I can’t sync, but Active sync doesn’t see the device, so I can’t explore the device to change the setting to do a firmware upgrade.

Once again the hardware drivers loaded the WIP and I can see it as a device in the device manager but I can’t explore the device.

Any ideas.

26. Scotty T - July 31, 2006

Ok, For the life of me I could not connect via active sync. I called linksys and they told me to do the upgrad button on the phone. Even though it said ver 1.00.00 the phone upgraded itself to 1.00.06A. This was a good thing. Then the Active sync started working.

I’m guessing this built in upgrading process will get me to 1.01.00 when it comes out.

I’m having issues with call waiting which is what prompted the upgrade. Ver 06a still has a problem with call waiting. Anyone else having problems with call waiting?

Hello everybody!

i’ve a wip330 wireless phone and two AP with ddwrt, when i move from an AP to the other AP, the call go to silence (but don’t hang) for 10 seconds. This time is taken for the phone to deasociation form the first AP and connect to the second…

if i’m pinging the phone from the lan, i see that 5 to 10 packets are losed when it changes the AP. Is there any trick on ddwrt wireless configuration that force the phone
to change to the other AP more quickly? any idea?

the two APs have the same SSID and same channel, I’ve tried diferents channels, diferents SSIDs and entry them on profiles…

thks very much

28. Nick - November 8, 2006

Byteman,

First, just a reminder that this site and more recent comments can be found at http://www.archatechs.com . This site on wordpress is no longer being maintained.
Since each AP is its own mini radio station, make sure they have unique channels. If you only have 2, you might want to make them as far apart as you can, say channels 6 and 11.

You are right to use the same SSID on both.

Some APs support passing off devices better than others. In fact, only higher end APs are specifically designed for it, like the Cisco APs. That doesnt mean it wont work with standard consumer APs. However, when you are dealing regular APs the wireless client itself has to figure out that it has changed APs, at that point a bit of re-negotiation is involved and a little lag may be ‘par for the course’.

You may want to try using one AP that is more centrally located with a add-on antenna. A higher gain antenna can make a big difference in coverage. Belive it or not, so can some aluminum foil:

im trying to get my phone to work with skype, i have changed the firmware and looked at all the settings but i cant figure it out! someone plz help.

30. Jon - November 5, 2007

Does anyone know exactly what needs to be done to upgrade the firmware on the Wip330 once you can connect it via active sync? The reason I ask is that I cannot upgrade the device once connected to my WiFI connection. Says download failed, although to get the *.sbe.bin file, I was able. I heard this was a common problem. Thanks!
