I wanted to add a add that I’ve had a lot of problems recieving calls with the WIP330. Often it does not even ring. I’ll be running a network trace soon and make sure to report the results.

Does anyone know how to install it in windows?

6. Nick - May 29, 2006

By ‘install’ do you mean use ActiveSync and treat it like a regular windows CE device?

Hevad has posted a comment on this article:

and we are working on a solution. In fact I think he has it working.

I’ve added the instructions for connecting to Windows XP in the last part of the review here:

My test shows that there is not problem in getting connection to any Wifi, when you turn off and on again, the previous known network comes back. It has NTP support, works fine too. New firmware is out.

9. Nick - June 11, 2006

Giab,
What verison of the firmware do you have?
I’ve seen several different versions reported around the net. I think linksys has made some production changes quietly.

10. giab - June 15, 2006

Nick Its wip_330_v1_06, the STUN issue can be resolved by keying in outboud proxy.

Could somebody provide a working link to the new firmwares? The one from http://www.wip330.com appears to be no longer working.

Thanks!

Just a reminder, archatechs has moved to http://www.archatechs.com
you can find the entire 3 part review of the WIP330 here at:

14. Smitty - July 17, 2006

Does the WIP300/330 work with Broadvoice? If so how do I set up the SIP information?

15. Nick - July 17, 2006

For those interested in the drivers, check out the new downloads page over at the new site:http://www.archatechs.com/page6/page6.html

Smitty- as for broadvoice support, it should work. We have not tried configuring it for BV directly however.
If you are behind a firewall you’ll probably run into NAT issues. Unless you can forward the approprate UDP ports then you may never get the phone to register. Lets hope linksys adds STUN (firewall traversal) support soon!

16. Sam Hatz - July 18, 2006

So here’s a question from a total nube: Laugh if you must. I live in the US but I am going to school in Switzerland. I want to get Vonage in the US and use this phone on my schools campus-wide WLAN so that my parents can call my vonage number to talk to me without paying long distance and also so I can call people in the US without long distance charges. It seems that this phone can only be made to work by God himself. So, questions are: 1. Will my Vonage idea work? 2. What do I need to know about my school’s WLAN to configure the phone so it actually works. A list of questions to ask the IT guy would be great.

17. Nick - July 18, 2006

Sam- you could absloutly do that, at least in concept.

First, this particular phone may not be your best bet since it doesnt do well with going across firewalls. If your school’s wifi gives you a true public IP address, that is not a problem, but my guess is that they do not. For a wifi phone that works well with firewalls (NAT), I like the Hitachi Cable IP5000.

Secondly, vonage will allow you to use SIP, or the open standard for internet phone, but it costs extra.

Consider looking at something like broadvoice.com or telasip.com which are not only cheaper but easier to configure on a wide range of devices.

Finally, this is a GREAT excuse to build a Trixbox server and be your own phone company. You could cominbine a number from http://www.freedigits.com (for the us) and http://www.voxbone.com for Switzerland and really work some magic. Ward has a guide up over at nerdvittles.com and there is a lot at http://www.archatechs.com and http://www.trixbox.org as well.

Good luck and keep us posted- just make sure to do so over at the new site, http://www.archatechs.com

18. Andr - August 5, 2006

Does anybody know where to get firmware newer than 1.00.00 ?

19. Nick - August 5, 2006

Andr,
Its available at the new site in the forums

20. Timothy Ding - August 31, 2006

Sam,
Stanaphone’s registration is free and it gives you an actual US number for ppl to call in. You just have to get out going credits(low rates) to make calls. It also has a voicemail to email feature where you get voicemails in you email.
