hey man
Just can’t wait to know if it works in starbucks !!
I’m never one to turn down a double espresso!
I don’t have a t-mobile account, but I’m going to pop over to Starbucks this week and get a day pass. I’ll keep ya posted!

[...] That being said, if you are determined to use the Linksys WIP-330 with Asterisk or Asterisk@home then check out our configuration gude (from the review part 1). The web interface makes it much easier. [...]
I’ve found it’s possible to access the device through the USB port, just add the correct VID and PID to the standard USB Pocket PC driver, use activesync and away you go. The Configs are held in the \WIP330 folder and are obvious to decode.
Hevad- Thanks for that update, thats really quite interesting!
I’m going to play around with that today and report back what I find. Thanks for the tip!!!
If you have trouble let me know and I’ll give you the details on how to modify the INF file for the activesync driver. The other interesting thing is that this bypasses all security and all your usernames and passwords are in plain text config files! So don’t lose the phone…
Hevad – Can’t find a Config file in the \Wip330 folder which helds the VID an PID information. Pherhaps You can send me the correct INF file entries for the Activesync driver?
I’ve uploaded the drivers and instructions as part of an update to this post:

I have recently purchsed WIP330, no difficulty in scaning and setting wifi and service provider. Very simple to setup, excellent voice quality. Connection never dropped, excellent stuff
How do I connect this via USB. Will a regular mini USB connectio work or do I need a special cable?
You do not need to connect via USB for configuration. With in your network in internet explorer 192.168.0.100 it will take you to the web based configuration.
I would like to share my recent problem, I wanted to factory re-set the phone, through live chat I was able to talk to the person. He asked me for the firmware.I gave him the details, he said that you need to upgrade firmware to get it factory default settings. He then sent the upgrade to my computer, later I followed the procedure for upgrage. When phone try to re-boot, the screen got frozen and I was not able to use it any more. I again contacted the same linksys person, he told me that your phone is dead and need replacement.
Later in the day I again contacted Linksys teck person and told him the whole story, he told me that there is no firmware availabel and the person was not supposed to send you a new firmware. After checking all the of their Tech person, they told me to send the phone back so that they can replace it. My supplier Telephoneyware.com was not helpful at all, they do not answer phone. So my suggestion is not to upgrade firmware until it comes under support page. Most of the linksys tech people have no idea about WIP330.
Did anyone happen to catch a copy of the the 330 drivers zip, WIP330_driver.zip, from Nick’s site? It appears that it’s no longer there. If anyone has and wouldn’t mind, I’d really appreciate anyone who might be able to email attach me a copy at tek412@hotmail All the best…
hi everybodys.
i have wip 330 linksys but the firmware is 1.0.4. how to upgrade to 1.0.6 please help me.
thanks.
I have a copy of the drivers, email me and I’ll send them to you, jibanes [at] eskimo.com
just a reminder that the new site is http://www.archatechs.com and that you can access the Windows ActiveSync drivers there in the download’s section.
TIP for NAT for Hotspots users:
Remember that the NAT Tunnel is open for a variable time, so configure the expire time to 60 sec. , so the phone try to re-register and keep the tunnel open, so you can receive call via RTP correctly.

FYI – there is a copy of the 10.01.00 firmware on the new site:

Downloaded the new 01.00 firmware. Now can’t access SIP accounts. The Skype is great of course, but phone useless for its original purpose. What can I do?
I download driver followed by

But windows xp can’t find any hardware info from download inf file. who can help me? or sent right driver to me by jungechen@163.com. Many thanks.
Sorry, I forgot I use v1.02.05 firmware.
anyone know if this is compatible with shortel?
Anyone else having a problem upgrading firmware that requires the sbe? I keep getting “unable to read checksum” when trying to upgrade to 1.02.05 or any other version. Previous versions that don’t require the sbe give me “invalid format” message.
SO this phone can be used on a Trixbox, with a FXO ? If so..Im getting me one
Basically, I have a Trixbox server with a POTS line, Plain Old Telephone System. I want to use this phone to make calls from it. I dont have a VOIP service. I just want to use it in the office. Will this work like that?
In case no one has noticed, not only has the site moved (www.archatechs.com) but I’ve been terribly busy. As a result I haven’t updated things as much as I’d like. The good news is that I do try and keep a close eye on the forums, over at the new site, and the comments here.
VaRMit – The WIP330 does work pretty well with Trixbox. I’ve used it with 1.2.x and 2.x with out many problems. The latest firmware does help a lot, to be sure.
As far as not having VoIP service, you will have to have an FXO, but its sounds like you are on top of that.
All that being said, if you dont need all of the WIP330s advanced features (IE color screen, web browser, skype, etc) then I’d strongly suggest the HitachiCable IP5000 – its just so rock solid and such a great wifi VoIP phone. Although, it does not support WPA at all, where the WIP330 supports 27bit WPA.
Hello, my wip330 is making me crazy.
Because I tried to upgrade the firmware (following the instructions of Linksys), now I am blocked on the intermediate version wip330_sbe.bin I cannot upgrade, I cannot downgrade.
I read that I can resolve my issue with the driver for Activesync but all the links I found are not more active. Does anyone know where can I find it?
Thanks
Angelo
Guys,
The guy who suggested not touching it may be right.
Mine froze after loading the sbe.bin file. Now it seems to be
a paperweight with a pretty blue Linksys screen.
These guys are real screwheads for releasing hardware/software that is this crappy. . .

Amazingly disgusted with Linksys.
They rush new untested items onto the market,
they don’t stand behind them, and don’t fix them.
Unreal. . .
Their techs are terrified of the WIP330, they know that a
great many of them become “bricks” when upgrade is attempted. . . This is not because the upgrade is “interrupted”, but rather because the gadgetry is poorly made.
Linksys has disabled all of it’s firmware upgrade areas for the WIP330. . .
Frankly, the incompetence of their software support, and the lead engineers/developers is a blazing crime.
crj
BTW Angelo,
ActiveSync can be downloaded free at the Microsoft site.
There is a freeware program ActiveSyncToggle.exe that
you can find (google it) which allows you to shut the puppy
off when you don’t want it. . . Alternatively, deinstall it if you
find you don’t need it. It’s one of those background resource
hogs. . .

Hi,
can anybody help me about how to use wip330 with Skype ?
Is it real that firmware v1_01_00s.bin has the skype added ? The skype.exe i hope.
Please help me if you can….
Best regards and bye bye from Italy.
Giuseppe.
WPA does not work for me (v.1.00.06). That phone really is a piece of junk so I’m going to return it.
why would anybody buy this and pay 5 buck for a coffee at starbucks
penny wise pound foolish

Hello! Help solve the problem.
Very often try to enter the forum, but says that the password is not correct.
Regrettably use of remembering. Give like to be?
Thank you!
I am trying to switch my wip330 over to skype to save a bit of money. I knew there was a firmware that did it, but I didn’t know that linksys was going to decide to get rid of it. I know 1.01.00 is what I need, but I can’t seem to find any way of getting it on my phone. Anyone got a clear way of upgrading my phone to skype. I tried and somehow ended up with version 1.01.01 which I didn’t even know existed. If there is skype on the phone, is it obvious when the phone is turned on?
Daniel:
version 1.01.00 is available on the internet. According to my
reading, you should be able to load it onto an html site, and
then direct the wip330 to it to up/downgrade to it.
WARNING! If the down/upgrade is interupted, the WIP330 will turn into a brick. Many ship that work on the default firmware, but will not upgrade without “bricking”. Linksys offers no real support for the product, and have disabled their upgrade site for it. . . Thus any firmware you find is “offhand” and “unofficial”. . .
To continue:
I do not recommend this product to any person.
Don’t buy it!
Linksys will never receive another dollar from me.

WIP330 is full of bugs, I have never ever used such a buggy device. I have updated firmware but nothing was corrected, it’s the same garbage as was before update.
Why is linksys selling such a garbage, don’t they care about their image?
This thing really does stink.
I’ve had to take a hiatus from posting on Archatechs (reminder that the new URL is: http://www.archatechs.com and that I no longer maintain this site) … but there are many better WiFi Phones on the market now in the same price range. I’d encourage anyone to check out the Nokia e series smart phones… you can use them on any SIP network and since they have web browsers they fill the same niche as the Linksys.
